Dunham-Bush Electronic Catalog
Like many HVACR manufacturers, Dunham-Bush used to rely on printed catalogs
and price sheets to allow sales representatives to select and price its
equipment. This manual process was time-consuming and required information
to be duplicated for each stage of the process: quote, submittal,
revision, and order. This duplication often caused errors as some
information was lost along the way, added later without modifying
the price quote, etc. Dunham-Bush also knew that it had to compete for the
sales representatives time as the representatives also sold other
manufacturers' products.
The Electronic Catalog was a conceived as a solution to both of these
problems. As a software replacement for traditional printed materials,
it could remove the duplication errors associated with the manual process
by maintaining only one copy of the data for all steps of the process. In
addition, it could perform many of the time-consuming tasks previously
performed by the sales representative therefore greatly reducing the amount
of time spent selecting equipment.
Once the Electronic Catalog was implemented, many other benefits became possible:
- All the data pertaining to a given job could be stored in one file. This file could easily be emailed to customers or Dunham-Bush support staff.
- The Electronic Catalog could be distributed to end customers with pricing disabled allowing them to select equipment themselves.

The program could generate custom drawings of modular air handlers. This enabled
sales representatives to receive submittal drawings quicker and therefore
submit last minute bid revisions with ease. This also reduced drafting workload at
Dunham-Bush.
- Sales representatives were able to select units that better met their price and performance goals, because the Electronic Catalog could quickly display in-depth data on a wide variety of product configurations.
