Dunham-Bush Workshop Program Series
For HVAC/R manufacturers that sell any custom equipment, application engineers frequently
need to produce performance data to send to sales representatives. Likewise,
design engineers at
any manufacturer need the ability to produce rough performance data for equipment that
hasn't even been prototyped yet. This helps them make design decisions for new product
lines.
When Colin Sarsfield
came to Dunham-Bush, most of the programs that generated performance data only
operated on existing product lines. Design engineers had to change the programs themselves
to rate new product lines and the limits of the programs were often narrow. As a result,
many possibilities and boundary conditions were rarely explored.
He took those existing programs and combined them into a few highly flexible programs.
Afterwards, it was not necessary for an engineer to have programming skills to produce ratings
and much less time was spent producing preliminary performance data.
In addition, boundary
conditions were easily tested and this often caused designs to be reevaluated. The workload
on application engineers was greatly reduced, and custom jobs that had been turned away
in the past could now be bid on quickly.
